The Excellence of Supplicating Du’as in one’s Absence

"And there are men who say: "Our Lord! Give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and defend us from the torment of the Fire!"" (Surah Al Baqarah 2:201)

Allah, the Exalted, says:

“And those who came after them say: “Our Lord! Forgive us, and our brethren who came before us into the Faith, and leave not, in our hearts, rancour (or sense of injury) against those who have believed. Our Lord! Thou art indeed Full of Kindness, Most Merciful.”" (Surah Al Hashr 59:10)

“Know, therefore, that there is no god but Allah, and ask forgiveness for thy fault, and for the men and women who believe: for Allah knows how ye move about and how ye dwell in your homes”. (Surah Muhammad 47:19)

“O our Lord! cover (us) with Thy Forgiveness – me, my parents, and (all) Believers, on the Day that the Reckoning will be established!” (Surah Ibrahim 14:41)

Abu Dharr reported that Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: “There is no believing servant who supplicates for his brother behind his back (in his absence) that the Angels do not say: ‘The same be for you too.’” (Sahih Muslim, Book #035, Hadith #6588)

Commentary: This Hadith makes it evident that one who prays for someone in his absence also stands to benefit from it because the angel appointed for the task of praying for those who pray for others will pray for him, saying, “O Allah! Grant him also the same which he has asked for others.”

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

This is the complete translation and transliteration of the dua from the famous qunoot done by Mashari Rashid Al-Afasy. It also includes the Arabic text making memorizing the dua easier.

الَّلهُمُّ لَكَ الحَمْدُ أَنْتَ نُورُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَمَنْ فِيهِنَّ، وَلَكَ

الحَمْدُ أَنْتَ قَيِّمُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَمَنْ فِيهِنَّ، وَلَكَ الحَمْدُ أَنْتَ رَبُّ

السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَمَنْ فِيهِنَّ
Allahumma lakal-hamdu anta noorus-samawaati wal-ardi wa man fihinna, wa lakal-hamdu anta qayyimus-samawaati wal-ardi wa man fihinna, wa lakal-hamdu anta rabbus-samawaati wal-ardi wa man fihinna.

O Allah! For You is all Praise – You are the Light of the Heavens and the Earth and all that is in them; and for You is all Praise – You are the Guardian of the Heavens and the Earth and all that is in them; and for You is all Praise – you are the Lord of the Heavens and the Earth and all that is in them.

أَنْتَ الحَقُّ وَوَعْدُكَ الحَقُّ وَقَوْلُكَ الحَقُّ وَلِقَاؤُكَ حَقٌّ وَالجَنَّةُ حَقٌّ

وَالنَّارُ حَقٌّ والسَّاعَةُ حَقٌّ والنَّبِيّونَ حَقٌّ وَمُحَمَّدٌ حَقٌّ.

Antal-Haqqu wa wa’dukal-haqqu wa qawlukal-haqqu wa liqa’uka haqqun, wal-jannahtu haqqun wan-naru haqqun, was-sa’atu haqqun, wan-nabiyyoona haqqun wa Muhammadun haqq.

O Allah! You are the Truth, Your Promise is True, Your Speech is True, Your Meeting is True, Paradise is True, the Hellfire is True, the Hour is True, the Prophets are True and Muhammad is True.

اللهُمَّ لَكَ أَسْلَمْنَا وَبِكَ آمَنَّا وَعَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْنَا وَبِكَ خَاصَمْنَا وَإِلَيْكَ حاَكَمْنا

فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا مَا قَدَّمْنَا وَمَا أَخَّرْنَا وَمَا أَسْرَرْنَا وَما أَعْلَنَّا أَنْتَ المُقَدِّمُ

وَأَنْتَ المُؤَخِّرُ لا إِلهَ إِلا أَنْتَ.
